What you need
- Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. Linux and Steam Deck work through Proton (below).
- World of Warcraft 1.12.1, the English client (build 5875). Only its
Datafolder is read, and nothing in it is changed. - Crash Team Racing for the PlayStation, the US version (SCUS-94426), as a
.bin/.cueor.isodisc image. The kart, its sounds, the HUD and the music come from your disc. - Optional: a PS5, PS4 or Xbox controller. It works natively, no emulators. The keyboard works too.
No game files are included or downloaded. You use your own copies of both games.
1. Make an account
Go to the sign-up page, pick an account name (3 to 16 letters and digits) and a password (4 to 16 characters), and type the letters from the picture. No email.
There is no password reset, so keep it somewhere safe. Passwords aren't case sensitive in WoW 1.12.
2. Download and unzip
Download WorldOfKartcraft.zip
and unzip it anywhere. Your desktop is fine. You get a WorldOfKartcraft folder; nothing is installed.
3. Add your games
Put your WoW 1.12.1 folder and your CTR disc image inside the
WorldOfKartcraft folder. The game finds them there by itself.
Already have WoW somewhere you'd rather leave it? Skip this. The game asks where both are on the first run. Unzipping World of Kartcraft into your WoW folder works too.
4. Play
- Double-click
Play Kartcraft.bat. On the first run it turns your CTR disc into the kart, sounds, effects and music, which takes a few seconds. - Log in with your account, pick the realm and make a character.
- Press J to climb into your kart. Then read How to play, or just drive.
If Windows SmartScreen says "Windows protected your PC", click More info, then Run anyway. The game isn't signed with a paid certificate.
Updates
The game updates itself every time you start it, downloading only the files that changed. You only download the zip once. If the update server can't be reached, the game starts as it is.
Linux and Steam Deck
Unzip the same download, then run bash play-proton.sh instead of the .bat.
It needs curl and jq, and uses your Steam's Proton or GE-Proton
(or the one PROTON=/path/to/proton names). It asks the same questions on the first run.
Offline demo
Demo.bat drops the kart over Northshire straight from your WoW install, with no account, server or
character. Good for checking your games work, or for feeling the handling before you sign up.
